Hand in Hand Cambodia and Hand in Hand Switzerland, with funding support from City of Geneva, launched the ‘Strengthening Rural Women’s Livelihood for Sustainable Economic Development’ project in 2022. The aim of the project was to establish 75 new self-help groups (SHGs) with 900 members over 2 years. Focused on Kratie, a province in Cambodia with high levels of poverty, the project used the Self-Help Group – Microfinance model for poverty alleviation in this region.
In this regard, the initiative included components such as the gathering of women into self-help groups, skill training, improving women’s livelihood through a focus on business-to-business services and the market engagement process, and raising awareness among women, men, and youth in the community on gender, health, and the environment.
