Hand in Hand Switzerland, in association with Audemars-Watkins Foundation and Hand in Hand India, undertook the ‘Rejuvenating Wells with Well Recharge Pits, a Climate Resilient Solution for Water Conservation’ project in the Salem district of India. The project began in January 2020 and was implemented for a duration of 2 years. The initiative’s objectives included rejuvenating defunct wells / bore wells by harvesting rainwater using well recharge pits, increasing the yield of the functional wells in terms of increased discharges and extended discharge time, increasing the groundwater table and water availability in the lean season, deterring further dwindling of the groundwater table, and improving food production and livelihood productivity, leading to better well-being.
