Hand in Hand Switzerland, in partnership with Humanium and Hand in Hand India, undertook a project titled ‘Providing Quality Education for All Children in Kaliyampoondi by Transforming it into a Child-friendly Village’ from February 2021 to March 2023. Focused on the Kaliyampoondi village in Kancheepuram, India, the aim of the project was to transform the village into a child-friendly one. As a result of this initiative, 667 government school children, 30 Children Learning Centre (CLC) children, 15 Transit school children, community members, and key stakeholders benefitted.

Various interventions under this included Children Learning Centre (CLC) for slow learners; distribution of learning kits for CLC children; establishing and running a Transit School for grades 8/9/10 drop outs or have not completed; educational resources and supplies for the Transit School; distribution of sports material to government school children; distribution of IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) material; awareness programmes on education and child rights; minor repair work at the government school; training government school teachers, volunteers, and school management committee members on child rights and laws; commemoration of special days; and renovation work, painting, games, teaching and learning equipment for child care centre (crèche).
