The project aims to restore and preserve 45 kilometres of coastline and enhance circularity within the waste value chain by empowering informal waste pickers through skill-building and capacity development. 500 members – informal waste pickers, 55% of whom are women are to stand benefitted from this project.
The initiative looks to reduce marine litter through effective waste collection and recycling efforts along 45 kilometers of coastline by engaging informal waste pickers in a trustful, community-oriented initiative; advance circular waste management and increase the proportion of recyclable materials through comprehensive training for informal waste pickers in waste management, environmental education, financial literacy, health and safety conditions, and entrepreneurship; and restore, protect and preserve coastal ecosystems by empowering informal waste pickers as ‘Recycle Guardians,’ while promoting economic inclusion, gender equity, and community recognition, ultimately improving their livelihoods and social status.
