Humanium is an international child sponsorship NGO founded in Geneva in 2008 and dedicated to stopping violations of children’s rights throughout the world.
In December 2015, Hand in Hand Switzerland Association, Humanium and Hand in Hand India, successfully launched a Sustainable Organic Farming Technology project in the three villages of Thenambakkam, Koyambakkam and Kaliyanur in Tamil Nadu, India. The project will run for two years and aims at promoting sustainable organic farming in the villages resulting in the following impacts:
Established in December 1999 by UBS AG, the UBS Optimus Foundation is an independent grant-making foundation committed to improving the wellbeing of children.It is headquartered in Zurich,Switzerland, and led by a small team with diverse professional experience in child health, protection,
and education.Hand in Hand Switzerland Association while in its nascent stage initiated a proposal with UBS Optimus
Foundation in the space of childhood early education. Following an in depth study and several
consultative meetings, a unique, multi-faceted and deeply impacting project proposal was offered to
the foundation. This project addresses the twin issues of quality institutional support and building
capacities of the caregivers, especially mothers in providing early childhood care.
This proposal has crystallized in a noteworthy collaboration between Hand in Hand Switzerland Association and UBS Optimus Foundation, Switzerland, to form and train Mothers’ Collective for Early Childhood Development. Funding for the project was received in 2015 and the project, is beingimplemented by Hand in Hand India from 2015 to 2018.
While the Project will impact 4800 individuals comprising 2400 children, across 40 villages in Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh, the indirect impact will be experienced by 40,000 people including 5500 children.
Drawing on the model of Self Help Group Movement, this program responds to key gaps (including health, breast feeding, nutrition training and paediatric assessment) in existing Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS). Mobilization, training on multidimensional aspects of early child hood development and economic empowerment of mothers collectives for sustainability are the crucial components of this Proejct.
The Project envisages forming 40 support groups called ‘Mothers Collectives’ of mothers of children aged 1-6 years. Each collective would comprise of 4060 members who, on a rotation basis, would look after the children in the centre with the ICDS worker.
The Recipient will appoint a motivator for each centre who would train and mentor the members of the ‘Mothers Collectives’ as well as support the functioning of the centre. The mothers will be trained on all aspects early childhood care and Education (ECCE), for holistic care of their children. Training will also be provided on related aspects of social and economic empowerment of the members including health and nutrition for women, basic literacy, financial education, skill development and also enable financial inclusion through bank linkage for livelihood promotion and household poverty alleviation.
Monitoring, learning and Evaluation is an integral component of this Project and for this, HiH India has entered into a tri partite agreement with Sambodhi Research & communication Pvt Ltd, who will be responsible for the Monitoring Learning & Evaluation framework and analysis of data.
Impashion is a socially conscious clothing and retail brand whose purpose is to support the eradication of child labour. About 30-40% of the profit of each piece of clothing bought goes towards children education, empowerment and upliftment globally.
Hand in Hand Switzerland Association partners with Impashion. The contribution received goes to support Hand in Hand India’s child labour elimination programme either through provision of uniforms, school bags or school accessories for children in need.
1% Fund for Development based out of Switzerland focuses on identification, selection and evaluation of projects, knowing that even smaller investments can make a big difference in people’s lives.
Hand in Hand Switzerland Association is working on implementing a project on watershed development and enhancing drinking water availability in Kaliyanoor, Kanchipuram in India. 250 households would benefit through this initiative.
